Dear Santa,

It’s me again. I realize my letter last year was depressing. This year I have a few simple requests. I’m hoping you can help me out.

What I want most this year is for everyone to think about what the holidays really mean. I want everyone to think about religious differences. I realize I’ve been adamant every year about not celebrating Christmas, and instead celebrating Yule, a Pagan celebration. But I realize now that Christmas is not about religion. It’s about spending time with family. It’s about giving gifts from the heart. It’s about being a child again. It’s about giving to the less fortunate.

I wish that everyone would stop giving into the commercialism. I’m tired of everyone going crazy this time of year. The road rage is at an all-time high. People are being trampled in the malls. People are getting into accidents. For what? To buy some overpriced electronic gadget that the receiver doesn’t appreciate? I would rather receive a gift that is handcrafted and only costs a couple of dollars, than some expensive present.

I wish that everyone would think about how fortunate they are. There are so many people in the world that don’t have enough food to eat or a shelter over their head. There are people who don’t have anyone that loves them. Most of us can’t imagine what that’s like. I wish that everyone would give something, no matter how small, to someone who needs it.

I wish that everyone would get along. Forget about race, religion, nationality, age, gender, sexual orientation, etc. We are all human beings, regardless of how we are.

I wish that people would learn to stop and smell the roses. People are becoming too busy and stressed to enjoy the simple things in life: A child’s smile, the moon in the sky, the flight of a raven, the growth of a flower…

I wish that mothers and fathers these days spent more time with their young children – laughing and playing with them, listening to them when they need a shoulder, helping them with homework…

I know it’s a tough list of wishes, but I have no need of material things. And I think that if anyone can help me out, it’s you, Santa.

Yours Truly,
